The SEJs in 2015

Dear SEJs, current and former,

With less than two weeks of 2014 remaining and festivities dominating the weekday calendar, I thought I’d take the opportunity of a lazy Sunday morning to kick off the new season for the SEJs.

Firstly, my sincere thanks to James and his Committee for putting the Society in such fine health heading into the new year. Record attendances at last year’s annual dinner, summer tour, and winter meeting demonstrate that the Society has never been in better shape. I feel very lucky to be taking over the Captaincy of such a blossoming group.

My thanks also to the 1986 babies leaving us this year. So many of you have contributed so much to the Society and we’re very sorry to see you go. Particular thanks to former captain Ned Fox and Committee stalwart (and Knockout fiend) Thomas Webb-Wilson for everything you have given; the society is a far better place for having benefitted from your presence, time and effort over recent years.

The Committee

Four rookies join six veterans from last year to form a stellar Committee for 2015, who will be filling the following roles and taking responsibility for arranging all of our fixtures. Please feel free to get in touch with any of us if you have any questions.

Fixtures

Attached is a copy of the 2015 fixture list. Each fixture will be organised by one or two of the committee, and teams will be selected in the weeks before, ensuring as many of us are included over the year as possible.

We kick off with one of the best weekends of the year, against Rye on 17/18 January, with matches against Oxford University at Huntercombe, and Worplesdon, soon to follow in February. I’ll be in touch over the next week with more details for Rye, but please do save the date for now if you’d like to play.

Annual Dinner – Friday 27 February, Le Meridien, Piccadilly

The end of February sees the SEJs return to Le Meridien for the highlight of our social calendar; the Annual Dinner.

Niamh has already circulated the invitation to the current SEJs, and I’ll be sending the invitation to the alumni very soon. Last year saw a record attendance of more than 120 guests, and we’d like nothing more than to beat that again this year. Please speak to Niamh if you have any questions in the meantime.

Annual subscriptions

The fantastic value of SEJ golf continues; annual subscriptions of £25 will be due on 1 March 2015. Our new treasurer, Stephen Tillie, will be in touch regarding payment nearer the time.

That’s all for now; I hope you’re all as excited as I am for the following 12 months. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

Merry Christmas one and all!

Chris
